Data Deletion
This page explains how to ask JAKKD to delete the personal information we hold about you, and what happens when you do. You do not need an account with us to make a request, and there is no charge.
How to request deletion
Email operations@jakkd.co.za with the subject line Data deletion request.
So that we can find your information and be sure we are acting on the right person's instruction, please tell us:
- The name you used when you dealt with us.
- The email address, phone number, Instagram handle, Facebook profile name or WhatsApp number you used, whichever applies. Include every one you have used with us, so nothing is missed.
- An order number, if you have placed an order with us.
- Whether you want everything deleted, or only information from a particular channel.
You can also send the request by post to JAKKD, Atrium on 5th, 9th Floor, Sandton, Johannesburg, Gauteng, 2196, South Africa.
What happens next
- We acknowledge your request by email, normally within two business days.
- We may ask you one or two questions to confirm the request came from you. We do this to protect your information, not to delay you, and we ask for as little as possible.
- We complete the deletion within 30 days of confirming your identity, and email you when it is done.
What gets deleted
Everything we hold that identifies you, across every system we use. That includes:
- Your customer record and contact details in our online store.
- Your messages to us and our replies, on Instagram direct messages, Instagram comments, Facebook Page messages, WhatsApp, and email, together with anything you sent us in them, such as photographs, voice notes or documents.
- Any record of you held in the internal tools and automations we use to run the business, including the queues our support system uses to make sure a message is answered once and only once.
- Your marketing subscription and contact profile with our email provider.
Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore information once it has been deleted, and we will not be able to look up your past orders for you afterwards.
What we may have to keep, and why
South African law requires us to retain certain records even after a deletion request. Where that applies we keep the minimum required, use it only for that purpose, and delete it when the period ends.
- Completed order and payment records, which we are required to keep for tax and accounting purposes. These are held by our accounting and payment providers, not used for marketing, and not used to contact you.
- A record that you asked to be removed from marketing, which is the only way to guarantee you are not added back to a list later. It contains no more than is needed to honour your request.
If any of this applies to your request, we tell you specifically what has been kept and for how long, rather than leaving you to guess.
Information held by Meta
We answer messages sent to our Instagram account, our Facebook Page and our WhatsApp number. Deleting your information with us removes our copy of those conversations. It does not delete the copy held by Meta on your own Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp account, because that is your account and not ours. You can delete messages from your side in the app, and you can manage or remove the information Meta holds about you through Meta's own settings and its Accounts Center.
Your other rights
Deletion is one of several rights you have. You can also ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to stop using it for a particular purpose, or withdraw consent you have given. These are set out in full in our Privacy Policy.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
